
Differences in performance characteristics between soft and hard tooth surfaces of reducers

The hardness of the gear teeth of a reducer is usually classified into two types: hard tooth surface gear transmission and soft tooth surface gear transmission.
Usually, a pair of meshing gears with tooth surface hardness greater than 350HBS are called hard tooth surface gears, otherwise they are called soft tooth surface gears. According to the hardness of the tooth surface, gear transmission is usually divided into two categories: hard tooth surface gear transmission and soft tooth surface gear transmission. The choice of gear transmission should be based on design requirements. Both types of gear transmission have their own advantages and disadvantages, but hard tooth surface transmission has the advantages of high load, long service life, and wide application.
There are many materials and heat treatment methods used for hard tooth gears, such as several commonly used ones: 40Cr. 45 #. 45Mn2 steel can be subjected to final heat treatment, high-frequency tempering, or nitriding treatment, such as 20Cr.20CrMnTi. 20CrMnVB.20CrNiH, which can be carburized and quenched, and 38CrMnAl, which can achieve high hardness through nitriding process. Some special materials require special heat treatment methods.
